His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi

His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi was born in the Emirate of Ajman in 1931. In his early childhood, he was taught the Holy Quran, reading, writing, mathematics and the principles of religious sciences by a number of prominent sheikhs. He received practical training in horsemanship and the use of different weapons.

H.H. was introduced to the principals of ruling and administration affairs since his childhood. In 1960 his father, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chose him as the Crown Prince, a mission he delivered with faith and competence, as he joined his father in laying the foundations of the modern Emirate of Ajman.

H.H. was elected Vice President of the Trucial States Council in 1966, and participated in the discussions that preceded the establishment of the UAE since 1968. He succeeded his father, one of the Founding Fathers of the Union, who passed away in 1981.

His Highness is the founder of the modern Emirate of Ajman. During his term, Ajman witnessed remarkable progress, as H.H. launched distinctive projects that led to its development and prosperity.

In 1983, H.H. launched the Rashid bin Humaid Award for Culture and Science, the first award of its kinds in the UAE. In 1984, he founded the International Charity Organization ICO, one of the first charities at the level of the UAE, in addition to the first social solidarity fund for supporting youth willing to marry.

In 1988, His Highness established the first private university education landmark, Ajman University College, now known as Ajman University. Under his ausposis, the Emirate of Ajman became a beacon of higher education in the UAE.

His Highness Sheikh Humaid is keen to follow up on sports news on both the personal and public levels, especially sports related to the UAE heritage. He hosts camel and equestrian races, marine and heritage races, and Arabian horse beauty competitions, in addition to supporting various sports activities and events in the UAE.

H.H. received an Honorary Doctorate in law from the University of Bedfordshire - Britain in 2009 an Honorary Doctorate in philosophy from the International Islamic University - Malaysia in 2011 and was also awarded the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for distinguished educational performance in 2011.
