His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the third Minister of Interior since the establishment of the UAE union in 1971. In 2009, HH was appointed Deputy Prime Minister, in addition to his position as Minister of Interior. Within the scope of his position, HH supervises various national projects and initiatives, which aim to implement the general policy of the federal government locally and internationally. His responsibility includes key tasks such as maintaining internal security and coordinating between the police forces around the UAE.
In 2009, HH was appointed Chairman of the Federal Demographic Council. In addition, he served as Director General of Abu Dhabi Police, where he oversaw the implementation of comprehensive strategic developmental projects, the structural development of the Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police, the modernization of the security systems infrastructure, e- surveillance, and the development of a unified state-level database. Throughout his career, HH focused on promoting the societal role of the MoI by establishing the Community Police, the Social Support Centers, the Ministry of Interior’s Rehabilitation Center for People with Special Needs and the MoI’s Child Protection Center.
In 2023, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a decision to form the National Council Against Drugs, headed by HH Sheikh Saif, and approved the establishment of the UAE Council for Digital Wellbeing 2020, also chaired by HH, which aims to enhance digital awareness and positive communication in the UAE society.
As Minister of the Interior, HH is keen to bring together the Ministers of Interior from the Gulf and Arab secretariats within the consultative meetings of the international forums and ministerial meetings. He further builds on the strong bilateral relations with his counterparts to conclude security and police agreements at the regional and international levels and document the efforts of the MoI in achieving international peace and security. In 2019, HH announced the launch of the first international security alliance in the region, hosted in Abu Dhabi with the participation of 11 countries, aiming to promote international coordination and communication to combat cross-border crimes.
The Holy Quran Tahbeer and its Sciences Award was launched in 2015, resonating the vision of His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It aims to establish the concept of mercy, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the world, in addition to the principles of good faith and positive citizenship for every individual in the society. Through this award, the UAE hosts beneficiaries from around the world, with the number of awardees reaching 23,000 people from 79 countries. HH is always keen to highlight his commitment to joining numerous cultural activities and innovative initiatives by sponsoring them and by personally participating in them.
His Highness is strongly committed to improving digital wellbeing, promoting sustainable development, and protecting people and the environment by developing KPIs and strategic plans for the MoI and linking them to the UAE National Agenda locally and globally.
