His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain was born on October 1, 1952. He succeeded his father late Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla to the rule of the emirate, on January 2, 2009. H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla received his elementary education in Umm Al Qaiwain and graduated from high school in Lebanon. In 1974, H.H. graduated from Cairo University, majoring in economics.
In 1977, H.H. Sheikh Saud was appointed Commander of the National Guard in the emirate of Umm Al Qaiwain, and in 1979 he became Chairman of the Emiri Court in his emirate. On July 22, 1982, his father appointed him Crown Prince of Umm Al Qaiwain.
H.H. Sheikh Saud assisted his father in government work and followed up on investment projects in the emirate. He contributed to the founding of many local authorities and organisations, their management and development, in line with the comprehensive development that was taking place in the UAE. He also attended meetings of the Supreme Council of the Union with his father. H.H. shaped a remarkable political and economic presence as a Crown Prince of Umm Al-Qaiwain and accumulated considerable experience in managing economic organisations, among others.
H.H. Sheikh Saud chaired several boards of directors of joint stock companies, including the National Bank of Umm Al Qaiwain, Umm Al-Qaiwain Gas Company, and Umm Al Qaiwain General Investments (formerly Umm Al-Qaiwain Cement Industries). He also contributed to concluding investment agreements and oil and gas explorations in the emirate of Umm Al Qaiwain and launched the first joint gas project with the government of Ras Al Khaimah in the offshore field in 2006.
H.H. Sheikh Saud closely monitored and studied the performance of Umm Al Qaiwain government departments and introduced new mechanisms and modern electronic systems to develop their work and services. He also contributed to empowering national talent and improving their skills in government departments and private sector organisations. Besides, H.H. Sheikh Saud created new governmental departments, approved ambitious plans for his emirate, and followed up on implementing his directives to improve services.
