H.E. Sana Mohamed Suhail is the Minister of Family in the United Arab Emirates. Mrs. Suhail works on developing policies and programs that empower and support families across the country, enhance the social fabric, and address challenges facing Emirati households.
Mrs. Suhail is also the Director General at the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority (ECA), a government entity set up in 2019 tasked with the crucial role of promoting optimal child development and well-being, from the early stages of pregnancy to the age of eight years old. Mrs. Suhail leads a team tasked with developing policies and laws, informing decision-making through research and transforming behavior by focusing on Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, Family Support, and Education and Early Care. Key achievements include the establishment of the National Academy of Childhood Development, the roll out of a new child protection policy for the Emirate, kicking off a World Early Childhood Movement and pioneering the region’s first workplace award program that promotes parent-friendly workplaces across the country.
Mrs. Suhail’s career journey spans more than 20 years in service of the community. Her involvement in several human development and institutional development capacities has given her the platform to impact policy development, system development and finally, community development, focusing on People of Determination and young children. Some of her past key achievements include the delivery of a national volunteering platform and policy for People of Determination.
Early on in her career, she led the Business Support Unit at The Executive Office of the Ruler of Dubai, where she launched several key projects including the Edaad Scholarship Program and the Arab Strategy Forum.
She has also served as the Assistant Secretary General at the General Secretariat of the UAE Cabinet where she led its Government Policies, Special Projects and Government Communication units.
In her capacity as the Assistant Director General of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, she contributed to the initiation and implementation of various projects including a holistic government communication system.
She then served as the Assistant Undersecretary for Supporting Services at the UAE Ministry of Public Works, where she oversaw the ministry's institutional development plans.As Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Community Development, she led the development and delivery of policies and programs related to the social sector.
Mrs. Suhail is a Board Member of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination and was a member of The Higher Committee for Organizing the Special Olympics 2019 - Abu Dhabi, the UAE Gender Balance Council and the Board of the Dubai Police Academy.
Mrs. Suhail holds a Master’s degree in Advanced Studies in Children’s Rights from the University of Geneva and a second Master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Affairs from UAE’s Zayed University. A graduate of the pioneering batch of Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Leadership Program, her personal interests include community service and maintaining wellbeing through a healthy lifestyle.
