In July 2024, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the appointment of Sheikh Hamdan as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. The swearing-in ceremony for His Highness coincided with a historic day in the country’s history, ‘Union Pledge Day’. Sheikh Hamdan’s new responsibilities reflect the confidence in his vision and leadership abilities, further strengthening his key role in realising the UAE's objectives in defence and government management. It also supports the UAE’s ongoing journey towards sustainable development and innovation.

Sheikh Hamdan's passion for equestrian sports, falconry, and poetry, where he is known under the pen name 'Fazza’, demonstrates a commitment to preserving Dubai’s cultural heritage. Known as an avid conservationist, His Highness' love for animals and his initiatives to protect the environment further highlight this commitment.
