Abdullah bin Zayed chairs 6th EHRC meeting
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Chairman of the Education and Human Resources Council (EHRC), chaired the sixth meeting of the council, held in Abu Dhabi today.
At the beginning of the meeting, the EHRC members approved minutes of the previous meeting.
Dr. Ahmad bin Abdulla Humaid Belhoul AlFalasi, Minister of State for Higher Education urged a drive to spread awareness among students about licenced universities with accredited programmes.
Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, made a presentation on the proposed initiatives in the fields of financial sciences. He emphasised the importance of adopting innovative initiatives to set up advanced institutions for financial sciences and financial technologies, to meet the government's goal of preparing adequate numbers of specialists in finance, investment and accountancy.
He also highlighted the need for special research on current financial issues and the necessity to fund such research efforts through Public-Private Partnership programmes.
Al Mansouri referred to a proposal submitted by the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) to set up an Innovation and Excellence Centre for future leaders, adding that the proposed centre would serve as an education and research facility for both public and private sectors in the UAE and the GCC countries and a conduit for transferring knowledge and know-how and for conducting joint research among the relevant entities, such as Ministry of Economy, SCA, the Central Bank, the Insurance Authority, as well as banks, companies, universities and financial service agencies.
Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance, and Dr. Reyadh Al Mehaideb, Vice President of Zayed University, briefed the members on the university's strategic and future plans.
Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the UAE University, and Dr. Mohamed Albaili, Vice Chancellor, presented the university's strategic plan 2017-2021 and the current research projects.
Sheikh Abdullah praised the university s efforts in preparing Emirati candidates for the job market and stressed the role of the private sector in funding research.
Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and Nasser Al Hameli, the Ministry's Under-Secretary for Emiratisation Affairs, made a presentation on the challenges facing Emiratisation in the private sector.
The meeting was attended by Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance; Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy; Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention; Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation; Hussein bin Ibrahim Al Hamadi, Minister of Education; Najla bint Mohammed Al Awar, Minister of Community Development; Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education, and other officials.
The EHRC was established through a resolution by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to find quick solutions in the field of education and bring it in line with the labour market.
