Learning gets a humane touch with #100DaysOfPositivity
Looking to embed a positive culture in learning, schools, teachers, students and parents are now being asked to share what all the educational institutions are doing in terms of positive practices.
#100DaysOfPositivity is an all-new co-operative initiative designed by the National Programme for Happiness and Positivity and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, KHDA, to help schools impart positive education. Simply put, the programme invites schools to do something positive every day for 100 days and share it on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #100DaysOfPositivity.
By sharing these positive practices, schools will be able to learn from each other and bring to the fore how positive education can benefit the entire community. Dubai English Speaking College, a school which integrates the values of positive education, is the first to join the programme.
The new initiative complements KHDA’s annual School of Hearts and Minds, which measures the well-being of students and teachers in Dubai. Institutions that take part in the KHDA programme will have access to relevant data for creating customised, evidence-based positive education initiatives.
"Our aim is to support and grow the practices that will encourage children to have more positive habits and lead happier lives. We have seen that students are keen to discover and learn from what positive education can give them. The leadership of the UAE is committed to promoting positive thinking and behaviour, and we rely on the cooperation of the whole community to make this part of our everyday lives. We are happy to partner with KHDA to see positive education become an embedded part of each school’s approach. Through #100DaysOfPositivity, we look forward to seeing the examples of positivity and happiness which teachers, students and schools will share," said Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness.
"#100DaysOfPositivity is the one platform that brings together all the positive practices that are being lived and learnt in Dubai every day, and shares them with the local community and international partners. We know that through initiatives like ‘What Works’ school leaders and teachers are already reaching the hearts as well as the minds of students. #100DaysOfPositivity will build on these strong foundations. It’s a pleasure to collaborate with the Happiness Office on a project which is so close to our hearts. We hope what starts with #100DaysofPositivity will continue into a lifetime of happiness," said Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Director-General of KHDA.
Ohood Al Roumi or Dr Abdulla Al Karam will visit a number of schools, which share images, text messages or videos using the hashtag. The community is encouraged to share all examples of positivity experienced at school, from small acts that put smiles on faces to larger projects that transform the school culture.
