The Ministerial Development Council discussed a federal law regulating medically assisted reproduction in a meeting held this morning (Sunday, October 9) in the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting – headed by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAW, Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Chairman of the Ministerial Council for Services – the Council discussed amending Federal Law No. 10 for 2008, which regulates fertility centres in the UAE to keep up with advancements in the field, and changing its name to “The Federal Law Regulating Medically Assisted Reproduction”. The amendments included reformulating the clauses of the existing law and expanding them to include restrictions on gamete preservation, assisted reproduction techniques, the conditions and procedures of insemination, as well as the rules regarding research, experiments, and illicit uses, among other regulations such as the accreditation of centres.
