Ministerial Development Council discusses regulations for UAE space industry

The Ministerial Development Council today held a meeting at the Presidential Palace to discuss the development of a national regulatory framework for the UAE's space industry by means of a federal law.
The meeting was chaired by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Council.
The federal law under discussion is aimed at regulating activities in the space sector in line with the UAE 2021 Vision and the UAE National Innovation Strategy to serve efforts to diversify and stabilise the economy and elevate education to contribute towards creating national space capabilities.
The council also discussed other topics including preparation of a federal law on international crimes as part of the UAE's commitment to international conventions and international humanitarian law.
It discussed amendments to Federal Law No.10 for 1999 on the Zayed Housing Programme, a proposal from the Ministry of Health and Prevention to issue legislation to promote breastfeeding and regulate marketing of child nutrition products, a memo from the Federal Electricity & Water Authority about its strategy and efforts to promote clean energy, reduce carbon emissions and footprint and achieve sustainability.
A report on the achievements of the National Media Council in 2015, and a report from the State Audit Institution about the closing account of the Emirates General Petroleum Corporation for the fiscal year ending on 31st December 2015 were also discussed by the council today.
