Ministry of Health and Prevention Introduces 3D Imaging Techniques for Ear Surgeries

13.10.2016

The Ministry of Health and Prevention is set to introduce a cutting-edge 3D imaging technique for ear surgeries, at a cost of AED1.5 million for one device. The new techniques will be in use within two months in Dubai’s Al Baraha Hospital, after which it will be disseminated to several public hospitals.  The technique provides a 3D image of the part of the ear that is set to be operated on, in addition to pinpointing the proper placement of the surgical tools in that area of the ear, at accuracy rate exceeding 98%.

The Ministry has already begun using micro-cameras to examine the inner-ear balance system, which cause significantly less inconvenience for the patient. With the new devices, a physician can determine imbalance in a patient in a matter of 10 minutes, at an accuracy rate exceeding 98%.
