Mohammed bin Rashid receives Mexican President

Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the visiting President of the United Mexican States, Enrique Pena Nieto, have held expanded discussions regarding a number of regional and international issues of joint interest.

They also tackled ways to enhance cooperation for the benefit of supporting sustainable development in various countries as well as building communication bridges among peoples across the world to reach justice, stability and peace concepts.

This came when Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid received the President of the United Mexican States today. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, attended the meeting.

During the meeting, they exchanged talks on ways to promote trade, cultural and tourist horizons between the two countries, as well as methods to build constructive investment partnerships, especially in the oil and renewable energy sectors, in the best interests of the two friendly peoples and countries.

They also discussed other issues regarding ways to boost friendship and cultural and humanitarian communication between the two countries through speeding up operation of flights between the UAE and Mexico in the near future by the Emirates Airline, which is making the final arrangements for the launch of these flights.

In this regard, Sheikh Mohammed and the Mexican President confirmed the importance of political consultations between the UAE and the Middle East on the one hand and Mexico on the other, where Mexico City will be a centre for countries in the region, and Abu Dhabi will be a centre for Latin America for consultation and activating co-ordination in regional and international issues of common interest for the benefit of international peace and stability.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammed, Enrique Pena Nieto, President of Mexico, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid attended the signing ceremony of ten agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the UAE and the United Mexican States, including a MoU on tourism co-operation which was signed by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister and Foreign Secretary of Mexico, Claudia Ruiz-Massieu.

Another MoU dealing on ways to strengthen cultural exchanges between the two sides, was signed by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Mexican Foreign Secretary.

In a related context, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Public Education Secretary of Mexico, Aurelio Nuno Mayer, signed a MoU regarding ways to boost co-operation and exchange of expertise in the education and scientific research fields.

Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, and Pedro Joaquin Coldwell, Mexican Secretary of Energy, signed a MoU on co-operation between the two ministries in the oil and gas sectors.

Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, and Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, Secretary of Economy, signed an agreement on ways to protect and encourage investment, while, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, and Pedro Joaquin Coldwell, Secretary of Energy, signed a MoU on ways to enhance joint co-operation in clean energy and energy issues related to climate change.

Another MoU was signed by Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi, CEO of ADNOC, and Emilio Lozoya Austin, CEO of PEMEX.

Behjat Al Yousuf, Interim Provost, Masdar Institute, and Dr. Enrique Cabrero Mendoza, Director General of the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico, signed a MoU to establish a joint Post Graduate programme between Masdar and the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology. The Dubai Economic Council and the Mexican National Bank for Foreign Trade also signed a MoU on credit and banking institutions in Mexico.

A MoU was also signed by Musabbeh Al Kaabi, CEO of Mubadala Petroleum, and Emilio Lozoya Austin, CEO of PEMEX.

Sheikh Mohammed and the President of Mexico approved the agreements and MoUs, and said they paved the way for further and overall co-operation between the two countries. They said that it would also contribute to enhancing friendly relations and co-operation in various fields in the light of the sincere desire to develop relations between the two countries, as well as build bridges of co-operation, especially with regard to air traffic, to activate the desired communication in the best interest of both sides.

Among those who attended the signing ceremony were H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group; Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs; Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and head of honorary mission accompanying the Mexican President; Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State; Mohammed Ibrahim AI Shaibani, Director-General of His Highness the Ruler's Court, Government of Dubai; Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director-General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai; Saeed Rashid Obeid Al Za'abi, UAE Ambassador to Mexico; Mexican ambassador to the UAE, Francisco Javier Escobar, and the accompanying delegation of the Mexican President.
