Moral values are needed in education system: Mohamed Bin Zayed

27.10.2016

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, said the UAE is proud of its prestigious identity and nobility derived from the teachings of our religion, the cultural heritage of our fathers and the customs and traditions of our ancestors.

Sheikh Mohamed said this on Wednesday while attending in Abu Dhabi the initial accreditation session for the moral education curriculum scheduled to be applicable in the UAE schools.

The session was attended by a number of ministers, government and educational authorities and a group of parents. The curriculum will be officially included and taught in the UAE schools from September next year, provided that it will be initially applicable in January 2017 to grades 1 and 2 in 20 government and private schools.

Ever since the initiative was launched under Sheikh Mohamed's directives in last July, working teams were formed and meetings were held to formulate the first draft, select the initial schools and see how to begin the teachers’ training programme.

Sheikh Mohamed was briefed on the 4 major pillars of the curriculum: personality and morals; individuality and society; civil education and cultural education. The pillars include more than 65 units, each to be taught along 6 weeks through separate classes to be merged generally with the school activities.
The curriculum is the result of close co-ordination among Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi Education Council, Knowledge and Human Development Authority and Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

"The current and future challenges and the ongoing technological advances necessitate us to double our efforts to develop the education system, enhance the scientific and cognitive skills of our children with up-to-date programmes. We need a curriculum that will meet our future orientations together with a solid base of moral values", Sheikh Mohamed said.

Sheikh Mohamed also met a number of parents of students to exchange ideas and visions about the best way to get the maximum benefit of the curriculum, considering that they play a vital role in supporting the initiative.
