UAE Cabinet Approves Amendments to the Civil Procedure Code

The UAE Cabinet adopted a resolution on the Civil Procedure Code, which outlines important amendments in line with the UAE Vision 2021 and UAE Centennial Strategy 2071.

The amendments are aimed at strengthening and modernizing the judicial procedures to ensure their ease of application.

The decision comes after concerted efforts between the federal and local authorities within the Government Accelerators platform.

The Ministry of Justice worked closely with the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, the Dubai Courts, the Ras Al Khaimah Courts Court and the DIFC Courts to introduce the amendments within 100 days in coordination with the Supreme Committee of Dubai Legislation, the Judicial Councils and the Military Court to draft the initial draft of the regulation.

The approved amendments by the Cabinet included the unification of procedures in all civil courts across the UAE, with the necessary flexibility to implement judicial decisions in accordance with the requirements of each judicial body.

The decision aims to improve the overall environment of the legislative and judicial structure of the UAE to better serve the society and to enhance its competitiveness at the global level.

The regulation includes items related to the one-day court, which aims to provide the fastest and most efficient judicial services in order to speed up the process up to 15 days only from the time of registration.

The regulation took into consideration modern developments, especially the digital and technological revolution witnessed by the world today, where the need to introduce modern technology in the field of justice, such as electronic registration procedures or issuing verdicts and judicial orders through modern electronic means, is needed to shorten and streamline procedures. The amendments to the law are in line with the tremendous development witnessed by the UAE at various economic, scientific and social levels and contribute positively to the wellbeing of citizens, as well as contribute position the UAE within the top 25 countries globally by 2021.
