UAE President issues decree to protect foreign cultural objects against confiscation
President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has issued Federal Decree No. 2 of 2017 on the protection of foreign cultural objects of significance against confiscation.
The decree which was recently published in the latest issue of the official gazette stipulates that foreign cultural objects of significance loaned by national entities from foreign cultural facilities like museums and exhibitions in order to be displayed in the UAE enjoy immunity against confiscation.
The decree compels national importers to inform the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development about the type and batch number of each object before entering the country to document it.
