His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, and Ruler of Sharjah was born on the 2nd of July 1939, in the city of Sharjah. His Highness was raised on the values of patriotism, and love of knowledge and learning. He also was very passionate about the history of his country.
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan was a dedicated student. After studying Quran in his early childhood with Sheikh Faris bin Abdul Rahman, H.H. started his education in September 1948 at Al-Islah Al-Qasimiya school. In 1954, H.H. joined the English Private School to study English, and traveled between Sharjah and Kuwait to receive his secondary education. He settled in Cairo at the end of 1965 where he later graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture, at Cairo University.
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan has been a teacher of English and Mathematics for two years, from February 1961 to September 1963, at the Industrial School in Sharjah, then was appointed President of the Municipality in 1965. As he returned to Sharjah after completing his university studies in 1971, His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan was assigned to manage the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
A few days after the establishment of the United Arab Emirates on December 2, 1971, the Cabinet was formed, and His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, was appointed Minister of Education.
At the age of 32, on January 25, 1972, H. H. was appointed ruler of Sharjah after the death of the late Sheikh Khalid bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, and became a member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates.
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan pioneered the cultural, economic, and social development in the emirate of Sharjah, doubled the efforts, and provided resources to encourage cultural interaction and dialogue locally, regionally, and internationally among nations.
